Mavericks Global Health Foundation

Health. Opportunity.
Stronger communities.

We work alongside communities to build practical, lasting programmes that improve health, wellbeing and opportunity — because better health does not begin and end in a clinic.

Small ideas, big change

It started with a football.

In November 2025, 160 children came together at Atse Tewodros Stadium in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. Sixteen teams — eight girls', eight boys' — took to the pitch. Children with additional needs took part in inclusive running events. There were health screenings, health education, toothbrushes and toothpaste, sport, food, laughter and a stadium full of people.

But what happened that day was about far more than football. It was about giving children affected by hardship and disrupted education somewhere safe to compete, connect and simply enjoy being children. It was about girls taking their place on the pitch with the same confidence as the boys.

That is the thinking behind Mavericks Global Health Foundation.

“We use what brings people together to help improve what keeps them well.”

Our global health model

Different communities need different solutions. Our job is to help make those solutions possible.

Sport

Creating opportunities for movement, teamwork, confidence and connection.

Health

Bringing preventative healthcare, screening and equipment closer to the people who need it.

Education

Giving children and communities practical knowledge they can use every day.

Wellbeing

Recognising the importance of mental health, resilience, belonging and safe spaces.

Inclusion

Making sure girls, children with disabilities and marginalised communities are not left on the sidelines.

Sustainability

Training and equipping local people so programmes can keep growing from within.

Where we work

Two places on the map. Both of them the beginning of something.

Each pin is a community we are working with directly. Pick a project to fly there, or drag to spin the globe.

The dotted line is the drive — an ambulance going overland from the UK to Sierra Leone.

The latest

160 children. 16 teams. One afternoon that is still going.

Sometimes healthcare needs a clinic. Sometimes it needs a football pitch. Our first tournament used something children already love as a doorway into health, education, inclusion and community — and the follow-up care it set in motion is still running.
